Description
The “Most Beautiful Nativity Scene” contest returns this year (established by Municipal Resolution No. 74 of 11/11/2021), an initiative addressed to all residents of Riano with the aim of preserving and promoting the art, culture, and tradition of the Christmas Nativity.
The Municipality of Riano, in collaboration with the Pro Loco association, seeks to encourage creativity and local craftsmanship while highlighting the resources of the area. For this edition, the nativity scenes will be set up on the ground floor of the Baronial Castle and will be on display in the castle’s halls on December 7, 8, 13, and 14, coinciding with the Christmas events held in the Historic Center.
Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite nativity scene.
1) OBJECT OF THE COMPETITION

The theme of the nativity scene is free.

Each participant may create only one handmade work, using any technique and material that is not dangerous to people or to the environment in which it is displayed. The maximum size allowed is 1.50 x 0.80 m.
2) HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Participation is reserved exclusively for residents of Riano, individually or as part of a group (parish groups, volunteer, cultural or sports associations, local institutions, and other entities).

The preparation of the nativity scene, including materials, supports, tables, and decorations, is the responsibility of the participant.

Set-up at the Baronial Castle is permitted only on 6 December 2025.

To register, participants must complete the form attached to this notice (available for download at www.comune.riano.rm.it) and send it no later than 1 December 2025 to [email protected].
3) WINNERS AND PRIZES

The top three nativity scenes will be awarded food hampers.

The prizes will be presented during the event “Award Ceremony for the Most Beautiful Nativity Scene,” scheduled for 6 January 2026 at the Council Hall of the Municipality of Riano.
4) PUBLIC VOTING AND JURY
The nativity scenes will be on display during the Christmas events in the Historic Center, where visitors may cast their vote.
Public votes will be combined with the evaluation of a specially appointed jury, which will assess the works according to the following criteria:

originality,

creativity,
-
reference to local traditions,

use of recycled materials.
5) PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION
All personal data provided to the Municipality of Riano will be processed exclusively for institutional purposes, in compliance with Regulation (EU) 679/2016. Data will be handled using both paper and electronic systems.
The Data Controller is the Municipality of Riano.
Data subjects may exercise the rights established in Articles 15–22 of Regulation (EU) 679/2016.
