Christmas in Riano: A Month of Tradition, Community, and Culture

The Christmas season in Riano returns with a rich calendar of events designed to highlight local traditions, the historical heritage of the territory, and the spirit of community. Supported and funded by the Lazio Region, the program offers residents and visitors an entire month of activities spread across the Historic Center, the Baronial Castle, and various cultural venues in the town.

At the heart of the festivities is the 13th Pangiallo Festival, a special occasion to rediscover one of the oldest desserts of Lazio’s culinary tradition—symbol of good fortune and conviviality. Through tastings, food stands, and craft markets, visitors can stroll through the village streets immersed in Christmas scents and the warm atmosphere created by the Pro Loco Riano.

The festival not only celebrates local flavors but also strengthens the bond between community, territory, and shared memory. Alongside the gastronomic events, particular attention is given to social, cultural, and charitable initiatives, including solidarity raffles, concerts open to the public, shows for families and children, and community-building activities dedicated especially to residents.

The Baronial Castle Boncompagni Ludovisi, with its special openings and guided tours, hosts an exhibition and multimedia installation dedicated to Giacomo Matteotti—offering a cultural path intertwined with civic memory and the history of the territory. Art, music, and theater also spread into the surrounding hamlets, where concerts, markets, and performances contribute to creating an inclusive and engaging Christmas atmosphere.

The season concludes on January 6 with the award ceremony for the contest “The Most Beautiful Nativity Scene” and with a special event dedicated to the Befana, highlighting a tradition that continues to renew itself while bringing together children and adults alike.

Christmas in Riano once again proves to be an event that unites culture, tradition, gastronomy, and solidarity—enhancing every corner of the territory and strengthening the community’s sense of belonging.
